Here's something Californian's have been dreaming about for the past year or so... green. Took this at the very top of California as we crossed over from Oregon, headed south bound on I-5.
Amazing what happens when you mix moisture filled clouds with a dry warm evening in Redding, CA. Thankfully this fire was in the sky, and not the mountains... though the horizon with those trees might make you think differently.
Whiskeytown Lake after sundown. Only sounds are a few passing cars on Hwy 299 behind me, geese honking in the distant darkness and crickets playing their songs. The chain in the foreground links out to buoys that hold a thermal curtain that blocks warm water from the lake's surface from going into a tunnel leading to the Sacramento River. There is about a 30-foot gap between the bottom of the curtain and the bottom of the lake, allowing cold water to flow into the tunnel.
